Protective Style #3 and 4

Protective Style #3

Twist hair all over and pin up with bobby pins.

Protective Style #4

Part hair into three sections (two on the sides and one in the back). Pull back section into a slick ponytail, twist the end, wrap it around itself and pin. Flat twist the other two front sections of your hair. As you get to the end two strand twist. Wrap and pin both side twists around the back bun. Done!

Product Review

My coworker has a short haircut and her curls are really defined. Her hair texture is a 4b. I finally asked her the other day what she was using to define her curls. She said Hair One for Curly Hair. So, the following is a review of Hair One Cleanser and Conditioner with Argan for Curly Hair. FYI - There are other types of Hair One Cleanser and Conditioner that cater to dry hair, dry scalp, and normal hair. I purchased Hair One from Sally's Beauty Supply for $10.

Hair One claims to cleanse, condition, and improve the overall health of your hair. It is sulfate free and the ingredients are:

Water (Aqua), Cetyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Amodimethicone, CID 157846, PEG-60 Almond Glycerides, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Argania Spinosa Kernal Oil, Coffea Arabica (Coffee) Seed Extract, Vaccinium Myrtillus Fruit Extract, Rosa Roxburghii Fruit Extract, Panthenol, Butylene Glycol, Propylene Glycol, Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Menthol, Polysorbate 60, Citric Acid, BHT, Disodium EDTA, Potassium Sorbate, 1, 2-Hexanediol, Hexylene Glycol, Caprylyl Glycol, Sorbic Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance (Parfum).

Note the cones and alcohol!!! After looking at the ingredients, I was skeptical because I've been told that cones and alcohol are not good for your hair. STRIKE ONE! Nonetheless, I was more concerned about getting that curl definition my coworker was able to achieve with this product. I felt the alcohol in this product might dry the hair out so when testing this product on my husband and sister I applied my homemade curl loosener then the Hair One.

Test #1

My husband's hair before this process:

Interview --

What do you think about the curl loosener?
It really makes me want some banana bread for one thing. It smells really good! But seriously, my hair feels very moisturized.

What do you think about Hair One?
It tingles!! It made my hair look 10 times better and it feels like it has been moisturized. My hair is really soft too.

Would you use Hair One again?
Absolutely. I'm taking your bottle.

Test #2

My sister's hair before this process:

Interview --

What do you think about the curl loosener?
It smells good and it made my hair soft.

What do you think about Hair One?
It tingles!! I can actually run my fingers through my hair now.

Would you use Hair One again?
Sure.

Now, onto me! I tried Hair One on my hair. I'm not even going to post pictures of myself because the before and after pictures look the exact same. My hair did feel good and I could run my fingers through it, BUT it did not give me any curl definition. I like the results on short hair but not long hair.

What's in Your Cabinet?

OMG you all, I KEEP forgetting to take my shea butter mix into the shower so it can defrost. Then, when I actually do remember, I don't even stay in the shower long enough for it to thaw out. As you all know, I use the shea butter mix as body cream and as a hair cream. Well, this morning was a struggle trying to put the non defrosted mix on as my lotion. So, this afternoon I decided to stop being lazy and start making my lotion the way I used to make it again. While I was at it, I decided to make some of Naptural85's homemade hair products. I will also list below other products I have in my cabinet for my body and hair. All recipes are below.

--------------- BODY ---------------
Body Cream:

8 oz Unrefined Shea Butter
1 stick CocoCare 100% Cocoa Butter
1 tsp Vitamin E
~ 1/2 cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Get a mixer and whip it all together. If you do not like how it smells, add a few drops of your favorite body fragrance oil.

Body Cream

When I want to give my skin a boost or just feel like I went to the spa. I mix up my own body scrub.

Body Scrubs:

3 Tbsp Sugar
1 tsp Lemon Juice
1/4 cup Milk

OR

mix the following to get a scrub consistency:

Sugar
Aloe Vera Gel
Extra Virgin Olive Oil

--------------- HAIR ---------------

Thick and Fluffy Pomade:

8oz Unrefined Shea Butter
~ 1 Tbsp Coconut Oil
~ 1 tsp Olive Oil
~ 1 Tbsp Jojoba Oil
~ 1/2 tsp Vitamin E

Get a mixer and whip it all together.

You can use this to do twists, braids, or just smooth your hair down.

Fluffy Pomade

Creamy Moisturizing Cream:

Measurements aren't exact; you will have to eyeball this one until you get the creamy consistency.

Use Coconut Oil as your base
Put coconut oil in the microwave to melt it slightly

Add the following to the melted coconut oil:

1/2 tsp Castor Oil
1 tsp Olive Oil
1 tsp Jojoba Oil
1 dollop of Fluffy Pomade

Mix and let set.

This creme is used as an everyday cream.

I didn't make any of this today, but here is a pic of what I have so you can see the consistency.

Creamy Moisturizing Cream

Hair Cleanser:

1 part Apple Cider Vinegar
2 parts Water

Mix in a perm applicator bottle and then apply to hair like shampoo as shown in my Wash Day Video.

Curl Loosener:

1/2 cup Yogurt or Sour Cream
2 Tbsp Honey
1 Mashed Banana

Wash hair with Apple Cider Vinegar mix. Coat hair with this mixture. Put shower cap on and let it sit for 20 min. Rinse out thoroughly.

Other products in my cabinet are:

Glycerin mixed with Water

Aloe Vera Gel
I did buy a $2 box of flax seeds the other day. I may attempt to make the flax seed gel sooner or later, but for now I am sticking with the Aloe Vera Gel.  The Aloe Vera Gel works wonders #tabbytaughtme

I also want to try Terressentials hair wash as a conditioner.
